University Codes of Conduct

MELP instructors are also expected to adhere to the University of Minnesota Code of Conduct for University community members. Guidelines for professional behavior include respect, fairness, honesty, and integrity. You should also be familiar with the Student Conduct Code, which your students are expected to follow.


University Expectations

Instructors should read and be familiar with the guidelines set for students and for themselves and learn how they can minimize student instructional complaints from the start.  

Teaching and Learning: Instructor and Unit Responsibilities
Instructors are expected to understand and adhere to the University policies regarding teaching and learning. This crucial policy includes:

  • Responsibility to Provide Information about Courses
  • Responsibility to Provide Students with Access to and Feedback on Their Work
  • Responsibility for Secure Handling of Examinations
  • Responsibility for Observing Scheduled Class Times
  • Responsibility for Observing Office Hours or Appointment Times
  • Responsibility to Report Scholastic Dishonesty
  • Responsibility to Maintain an Appropriate Learning Environment
  • Responsibility to Maintain the Classroom Environment
     

Teaching and Learning: Student Responsibilities
This policy includes:

  • Satisfying prerequisites
  • Responsibility for classwork
  • Attending class
  • Maintaining academic integrity
  • Seeking help and accommodation
  • Respecting intellectual property
  • Keeping classroom in good order
  • Use of personal electronic devices in the classroom
  • Bringing guests to the classroom requires instructor permission
