College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS)
The Human Resources office in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies also supports faculty and staff at MELP and can answer inquiries about payroll, appointments, and college-level professional development opportunities. Medical Benefit Eligibility for Adjunct Faculty
Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medical Benefit eligibility for single semester (adjunct) instructors hired as Lecturer (9753) classification is determined as follows.
The College follows the guidelines set by the University of Minnesota Benefits department, Office of Human Resources, University of Minnesota. The University of Minnesota offers both Medical and Dental insurance for those that are eligible.
- The University Health Program office determines eligibility for the single semester appoints by calculating the gross income from pay period 10 (October) through pay period 9 (September) of the following calendar year.
- If the employee has grossed the 12-month floor salary of an Instructor, or higher, the employee is eligible.
- A letter is sent from the Heath Programs Office, Office of Human Resources Department.
- Instructions are given to the employee explaining the steps they need to take to receive the benefit.
- The benefits are for one calendar year starting with January.
- The process is followed each year.
- The College will verify each single semester instructional hire appointment to make sure all that are eligible receive the option of the ACA through the University of Minnesota.
Wage-Disclosure Protection
Under the Minnesota Wage Disclosure Protection law, you have the right to tell any person the amount of your own wages. Your employer cannot retaliate against you for disclosing your own wages. Your remedies under the Wage Disclosure Protection law are to bring a civil action against your employer and/or file a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry at 651-284-5075 or 800-342-5354.
