Procedures for Making Teaching Assignments

The MELP Program Director is responsible for making and communicating teaching assignments to instructors prior to each semester or summer term.

  1. Director sends out MELP Teaching Interest Survey to all Full-time Teaching Specialists, prospective Graduate Teaching Assistants, and prospective Adjunct Teaching Specialists.
  2. Director assigns courses to Full-time Teaching Specialists first to ensure contractual compliance, followed by Adjunct Teaching Specialists and Graduate Teaching Assistants.
  3. Courses are assigned based on seniority, experience, availability, and preferences expressed in the Teaching Interest Survey.  The Director makes efforts to balance the assignments so that each level of the IEP includes a variety of Full-time Teaching Specialists, Graduate Teaching Assistants, and Adjunct Teaching Specialists.
